The Kindness of Strangers

A visitor to Lustre last weekend gave me these beautiful objects and I made noises that were audible only to certain mammals. I was very touched. Selling aside, the highlight of most of the things I do is talking to people about collection and unravelling that desire to own objects. Even though I spend most of the time theorising on the appeal of objects like the ones above, their power to evoke an almost primal desire for ownership never wanes. For me and a few others anyway.
If you covet the above then you will also love http://www.marymaryquitecontrary.org.uk and http://www.obsessionistas.co.uk. The latter brought to my attention by my Hothouse buddy Jo Pond whose brush collection made me make similar noises http://www.obsessionistas.co.uk/collections/2011/11/4/brushes-0071.html

Glad you enjoyed Jo's collection of brushes as much as we did. Thanks for sharing the link to Mary Mary Quite Contrary. I had not come across the Mary Greg collection before. I think a trip up to Manchester to check it out is definitely in order.

I very much recommend following the blog, there is also an exhibition by artists responding to the collection happening next year at Platt Hall Gallery of Costume.
